A weekly features celebrating unread books on our shelves! Pick a book you own but haven’t read, write a post about it (suggestions: include what it’s about, why you want to read it, and when you got it), and link up.
My Shelf Control picks will be books that I already own — either physical copies from my overflowing shelves, or one of the many unread titles elbowing each other out of the way on my Kindle.
So, although Bookshelf Fantasies is only counting actual books I’m also going to add in any books that I’ve received from authors and Netgalley that need to be read… so, here goes!
I purchased this because I love Stephen King and it was (then) being made into a television show. My hubby wanted to watch and while I was interested I really hate watching shows or movies without reading the book.
Well, for whatever reason the evil hubby talked me into watching the show prior to getting to the book. What a mistake! I did not like the show very much so I have been looking at that book on my shelf for some time now. I am writing this and even now I am crinkling my nose because I just do not think I am ever going to make myself read it. Although, I know I really should to get the real story. Sigh!! We shall see, sooner or later.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when — or if — it will go away.
Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens — town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician’s assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing — even murder — to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.
