Review Policy

As of 01/26/2018:

Authors/Publishers: For once I am pretty caught up! I am scared to even write that as I know how many wonderful authors and publishers are out there that I have not read. Between school and my personal reading I have been trying to keep my list pretty short so it is easier to catch up. I would prefer a month or two to be able to schedule and get to the book!

Thank you all you wonderful authors, publishers, bloggers, and friends who have been patient while I’m having one crazy year! <3 Couldn’t do this blog without you!!

General information

I am currently accepting select Horror, Cozy Mystery, Young Adult, and/or Adult books for review. You can send emails to Ruffdayreviews (at) outlook (dot) com.

I accept ARCs, finished copies, ebooks (Kindle or PDF) and audiobooks.   If the book is a part of a series, then I may need the previous books.  In the case of audiobooks, there will be two reviews: one for the story, and another reviewing the reader/audio performance.

I am currently accepting all types of books however my normal waiting period is around two months unless it is an Arc in which case I will try to time my review around two weeks of the books publication.

You can also browse my Review Index to get a feel for my interests.

I enjoy YA and Adult fiction in the following genres:

  • Paranormal
  • Fantasy
  • Historical fiction
  • Romance
  • Horror
  • Satirical
  • Dystopian / Apocalyptic
  • Some Erotica
  • Some non-fiction

I do not tend to enjoy books in the following genres (there are always exceptions):

  • Memoirs/biographies
  • Extremely political or “hot button” topics
  • Overtly preachy Christian fiction (Christian values are fine)

What you can expect from me:

Accepting Books

If I accept a book for review, that does not guarantee a positive review.  But it does guarantee promotion through a mention in my Goodreads page, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble as well as an informative review.

I will write a review for every book I finish. Most reviews will also be posted on and Goodreads, though they may be modified. My reviews are written in a relaxed manner reminiscent of a conversation among friends. They are not meant to be objective literary critiques.

I write fair and honest reviews, but this does not mean I will always write positive reviews. My reviews are my opinion, and if I don’t enjoy a book then my review will reflect that. I am here to give a service however, and that service is to give the best damn review that you’ll see. I’m quirky and my quirkiness is going to shine through but so are great facts about your book!

With that said, I strive to explain why the book in question did or did not work for me personally. I do NOT write nasty or snarky commentary.

If I do not finish a book I will always write an explanation for DNF-ing. These explanations are different from standard reviews and will state that I did not finish the book, what page I read up to, why I did not finish, and if I plan on ever picking up the book again.

I post reviews on my blog, on, I also post links to my reviews on twitter and facebook. I am @RuffDayReviews at Twitter and my facebook page. If you want me to post a review elsewhere, please let me know and I will be more than happy to post it!

I am more than willing to promote your book by hosting interviews and a guest post, as well as giveaways for your book. I am also willing to participate in blog tours. I will never try to sell your book on ebay, but I may give your book away. Remember, people get super excited about giveaways, so they may get super excited about your book.

I am an honest reviewer, if your book is wonderful I will sing it’s praises. If your book was not so good, I will post why I felt that way in a constructive manner.

What I expect from you:

  • Hit that LIKE button for any reviews I do on Goodreads, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
  • Follow on Twitter & Like my Facebook page.
  • Tweet or retweet my review & place a link into facebook (if you use those social venues).

Please remember I’m doing my best to support you (please see below) and it takes reviewers a very long time to read and put effort into reviewers, so what I am asking from you is to help support my reviews and my blogs!

Review Structure

All reviews will include the following:

  • Cover art
  • Book stats: Title, publisher, page count, release date, series status
  • Where I received the book
  • A summary (From Goodreads, Amazon, or the jacket flap)
  • My review: What I liked and didn’t
  • Rating
  • A bit about the author

Rating System:

This is a to be determined depending on how I feel about the book. Sadly, this can change for a variety of reasons.

5- This is one of my new favorites!

3- Good book that I didn’t feel like I had to trudge through to get to the ending. Kept me interested but still missing something.

2- Not quite bad but not quite good either. I like something but not enough to really have a great time reading.

1- Trudged to the ending. A lot of this isn’t resonating with me.

1/2 – Half a point will be used when a book doesn’t quite fit in the categories above or below.

I also have a PERFECT rating which is for the few books that are so fantastic that I’m sad they ended. And a DNF rating, which I rarely use.

If you are doing a blog tour for your book and would like Creating Serenity to be a stop, please email me!

I am happy to host a giveaway for you! My criteria for hosting giveaway books is the same as that for review books. Please refer to the the genre, publisher, and book format requirements for review books.

Entries will be compiled through and winners chosen by Rafflecopter.

If you would like me to host a giveaway for a book, please be sure to include the following information in your request:

  • Title/Author
  • Format of the book (ARC, hardcover, softcover, audiobook)
  • Shipping requirements (US, US/CA, or International)
  • Run time of the giveaway
  • Any additional information you would like included (photo of prize, blurb, signed?, etc)

Author Guest Posts and Interviews

I am happy to host authors on Creating Serenity! This is my favorite part! I love reading of course but getting to KNOW YOU AUTHORS is why I do this!

If you would like to be featured on Creating Serenity, please email me with the following information:

  • Your name and the name of your book
  • A brief description of your book (or link to Goodreads)
  • Do you prefer a guest post or an interview? Will you provide a topic/questions or would you like me to? *
  • The month/date you would like to be featured**
  • If you would like to include a giveaway

*Please note: If I have not read your book and you are coming up with your own guest post topic, then I prefer, but do not require, you send me a copy of your book.

If I have not read your book yet and I am coming up with the guest post topic or interview questions, then I require a copy of your book and 1-2 months advance time to read your book.

Quite a bit of this fabulous review policy is from Small Review’s Book Review Policy.

Hi, Christina. This is Lesa Howard author of Phantom’s Dance. I know it’s been a few months since you read and reviewed the book, but it’s out on audio now and I’m looking for listeners who will share their reviews on Audible and Amazon. I realize your TBR is probably full, but if you know anyone who might be interested please give them my email address. I have complimentary copies for reviewers.
