Synopsis: The spaceship, Starship Avalon, in its 120-year voyage to a distant colony planet known as the “Homestead Colony” and transporting 5,258 people has a malfunction in one of its sleep chambers. As a result one hibernation pod opens prematurely and the one person that awakes, Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) is stranded on the spaceship, still 90 years from his destination.
The very beginning of this movie and I was curious how it was going to end but in such a way that was intriguing, not let’s get to the end of this because I’m so bored. This may not be popular opinion, but I absolutely loved this.
I’ll explain a few reasons why. First off, you find out how (not the overall how though) everything happens pretty fast. Within 30 minutes of watching.
Technically there are many characters in this, however most of them are sleeping. What’s hilarious is when each person goes through the questioning with the computer as to how and why they are awake and the computer keeps telling them that it is not possible for them to BE awake, and yet they are. You can see and feel their exasperation, and yet there is nothing they can do about it.
An email that Chris Pratt’s, Jim Preston, character sends isn’t going to be expected to reach Earth and get back to him for FIFTY years. Needless to say, he’s frustrated. Fortunately, he’s a mechanic, so he knows how to fix things.View Spoiler »He’s alone for a LONG time. Now, within this time you’ll see how much he goes through before waking up Aurora Lane. I can completely understand, after being alone for a year, why he goes through with waking Aurora. I know it’s not right, but it makes sense. Who would choose to be alone for the rest of their lives? « Hide Spoiler
I loved this. I loved the ending, the relationship between Aurora and Jim, and the trials they go through. The computer system is freaking out, portrayed beautifully by Michael Sheen’s character. I get he’s an android, but I just love him!
In short: I recommend this. Especially for a date night. I keep trying to get my hubby to watch it because I think he’ll enjoy it too, but so far, it’s not happening!
