Each Monday will bring a different horror… to help you cope with the horror that is Monday with the horrors that are in the fantasy world.
Horror for Today: Zombies! But not really…
The lives of the residents of a small French town are changed when thousands of the recently dead inexplicably come back to life and try to integrate themselves into society that has changed for them.
I really like Kris Holden-Ried from Lost Girl so when I saw that he was in this I knew that I wanted to watch. The hubby knew that he wasn’t going to get into this (he really doesn’t like horror) but sat and watched a few minutes and was immediately bored!
Surprising to be bored in the first few minutes of a horror but I honestly enjoyed the beginning. The build up is all there. What is going on is that if someone is bitten they have approx 72 hours before they turn full fledged eating people’s brains zombie. They were able to create a serum using the spinal fluid of dead zombies and this serum helps to reverse the zombie effect which in turn helps these returned to get back into society. The thing is, they have to take this serum daily or the virus will take over and they become said brain eating zombie.
This premise totally worked for me! It gives the perspective of the people behind the disease. You get to love them before they turn all grotesque so I was totally into it from the start! This is why The Walking Dead is so popular, it’s about zombies but more importantly, it is about the people.
Then we move further into the movie… and further into boredom! I had started to connect to the people, to their plight, to the synopsis, and even to the music which in some parts was quite creepy, but I had this overall feeling that the movie didn’t hold up to its end of the bargain. Something was missing…
The real threat wasn’t zombies. Yes, the returned turn back into zombies without the serum but that’s never in the film. Every time the music ratcheted up I would get all excited and know, JUST KNOW, that something seriously dire was going to happen, and then nothing did.
Well.. things did but not with zombies.
So… in short: I think the movie was good but it definitely was not scary. The hubby gave up halfway through and really I wanted to also. The ending was just… oyyy just crappy. And I didn’t feel like it was in a good scary movie twist way either!
