Horrifying MondaysHorrifying Mondays is all about what scares us. The horror behind the curtains that we refuse to open, the creatures in the dark, and sometimes those creatures that are in the open!

Each Monday will bring a different horror… to help you cope with the horror that is Monday with the horrors that are in the fantasy world.

Horror for Today: The Walking Dead!

Ready for another season of The Walking Dead? Here’s a little reminder of what we’ve been missing!

My Thoughts HorrorTo get ready for the premiere (which I hopefully watched last night!!) I decided to watch the seasons 1-4 back to back! I noticed so much that I didn’t see before! I enjoyed the series so much more this time around without the break between episodes. It is AMAZING.

So… here are a few things that differ from my original opinion. If you haven’t seen the show there are going to be some spoilers ahead!

First of all, I loved watching this full thing again. Knowing what is about to happen I knew when I could go cook (when I didn’t want to watch horrible things like with the governor BLAH) or when I had to sit and watch every moment, like the moment between Rick and Shane. Re-watching this gave The Walking Dead new life to me. There were so many things I missed the first time around and although I’ve watched this over and over I never sat down and just watched the entire thing. I really enjoyed the character arcs and being able to see them fully through the seasons.

Rick. If you’ve seen the entire show you know Rick has had some serious ups and downs. I really like this guy though. I hate everything that he has to go through to find himself again. He tries so hard and has to deal with Shane through so much of Shane’s bs and I feel like all Rick wanted was a happy environment. A place for his family to feel safe, to get back his relationship with Shane and to keep the farm a good place to be. It’s a lot to deal with.

On a side note! I had no idea that Rick Grimes was Andrew Lincoln! Check out how much he’s changed!

Laurie. I hated her. Like I mean, hate is a strong word but I hated her. The second time around my feelings about her aren’t so black and white. In the first season when Rick shows up she tells Shane that they can no longer be a thing. She is very insistent about it. She tells him multiple times to back off!!! What does it take for him to get it? The only bad thing was she asked him to stay with them. That was the part that threw me off a little. I’m sure with her reaction after the farm incident that she did love him but didn’t she love Rick more? Once in the prison she tried but her reaction to what happened with Shane and Rick was way off base.

Carl. This kid. Oh boy… I get that he’s a kid but come on. You think he would learn but he is always being so stupid! I want him to grow up but not to stop being a kid but to really realize that there is danger out in the world. I want him to stop going off by his own! It’s crazy! I am glad when he meets Michonne. I think she’s good for him. In the last few episodes I feel like he’s finally starting to carry his own, although he goes off alone when his dad is sick… sigh!!

Daryl DixonDaryl. I love Norman Reedus so I knew I was going to love him in this part. But there is just something about Darryl that makes everyone swoon. Well, I don’t know about the men out there but definitley the ladies! I just love this part. I love Daryl. He started out so pissed at Rick and he really seemed like an ass but he grows so much through the seasons. He has grown as much as Rick has. The fact that he is willing to put his life on the line for Rick now is amazing.

Andrea. Ohh Andrea. This is another character that I was often changing my mind with. She annoys me sometimes but then she does something that surprises me. She is obviously attracted to men of power but I don’t think that once she gets something into her head she sticks with it. She never believed that Shane was wrong and actually completely understood him, and was starting to agree with the governor. Really had hope that she would grow some more but it seemed like she didn’t grow at all.

Michonne. I love her! How could we not love a machete wielding woman that goes around kicking ass? I have loved her from the episode when she was introduced and I had no freaking idea of who she was! The fact that she’s a bad ass with and without the machete just makes her all the more awesome. She is also equally as gentle as she is fierce.

In short: I really love this show. There is so much diversity and I am in love with the characters and their growth. You cannot remain stagnant in the zombie apocalypse! Watching this back to back was a great reminder of what I get to look forward to!

Are you ready for the new season of The Walking Dead?

Thanks for a really complex review of the show. My two daughters watch it (one doesn’t live with us) and my younger daughter tells me not to watch it because she knows I don’t like these kind of things (see above, your gore factor: 5/5, lol!!) I just don’t do explicit violence well, I get freaked and I get flashbacks of it later. I wish it was a book and with less detailed violence; I enjoy dystopian stories about folks’ base survival instincts, that part fascinates me.

So while I appreciate you enthusiasm for the show like many millions others, I will pass on it and just enjoy hearing about everyone else’s love for it.

It really is gory! Have you tried reading the comics? There is a bit of gore in them but at least they are just pictures and not full on shows! Did they watch last night? It was AMAZING!!
