Thirty years in the future, a sinister New York City exists in permanent darkness.

A student at the secured NYU, nineteen-year-old Nadine has visions of Victor Gianni, an imaginary guy she has real feelings for. Afraid of being truly insane, she explains the visions away as simple daydreams, but she can no longer deny them when she bumps into Victor in real life. But this Victor doesn’t know her, and turns her away. After the encounter, Nadine’s visions change to those of eerie fates, gods she’s never heard of, demons with sharp claws they are not too timid to use … and instructions.

To discover if she’s losing her mind, Nadine follows the vague directions—with the real, rude and reluctant Victor—leading to a man who knows it all: Nadine can restore an ancient creed by unveiling the clues on her visions, and bring sunlight and peace to the world again. But that’s only if the demons and the other evil forces behind the darkness don’t stop her first.

My Thoughts:

I absolutely LOVE how book one, Destiny Gift, started. I was completely mesmerized by the characters and by Juliana Haygert’s writing. Fantasy isn’t my thing for the most part so I got lost a little and had quite a few questions the more I read. But the more I read the more I wanted to read…

Nadine has some serious visions, and I’m not talking about the daydreaming kind. I mean this girl is actually in her visions and is in love with one of the guys from her visions! With everything that is going on with her I understand why she doesn’t make the most appropriate choices but man… I just wanted to smack this girl. She is constantly doing THE thing that I yell at people for doing in the movies; going off alone in the dark, getting drunk when you totally shouldn’t be, not listening to the people around her, being in love with someone who doesn’t love her! The list can go on and on! But I still think that there is something about her that keeps me wanting to know what is going to happen.

The two men in the story had me going back and forth about who I liked more. I think I had to side with Nadine a few times and just throw up my minds and back away from all of them, and technically there are THREE! Who has to choose between three gorgeous guys? No wonder Nadine has issues.

Each of them, well with the exception of vision Viktor, has their own downsides and quirks and each got on my nerves. Just as I was cheering one guy on that guy would do a dumb ass move and have me smacking my forehead… oh men…

The only downside was that I was sooo enamored with the first portion of the book and then it really slowed down. There is so much information about the Gods and I think all of that got a bit too much for me. I was looking for either horror or some serious romance. And the love triangle thing had me cringing from the beginning. I never like those.

BUT Juliana is a fabulous writer and I think book one was well played! Very enjoyable even for someone that doesn’t exactly love fantasy.

Sequel of Destiny Gift (Everlast #1) – contains spoilers:

It’s been three months since Nadine last heard from Victor, Micah or Ceris, allowing her to concentrate on her own life. But until Victor and Micah find the scepters that will restore them as true gods, their human bodies will require her healing touch and it’s only a matter of time until they wreak havoc on her life again.

As if to prove that, Victor shows up at the hospital dragging along with him a swarm of demons. Nadine is forced to flee to safety. Despite her attempts to keep her loved ones protected, the demons find her, and they bring her to Imha, the goddess of Chaos.

Now, confronted by her greatest fear, Nadine finds a new motivation. Vengeance. And when seeking revenge, no risk is too great, including her own life.

My Thoughts:

Ohhh… this was so much better for me than the first. Nadine still has her moments. She’s naive at times and boy does she play that damsel in distress card but I really don’t think it’s completely on purpose. She’s being thrown a lot and winds up handling it all so much better than in the first book!

And I have finally chosen who I like more. I mean this love triangle has really got me down but I’m sure everyone has their favorites. I am pretty sure I’m Team Micah all the way, especially since Viktor just isn’t going to live up to her dream version of him!

Book two was a lot smoother, easier to read, and had a lot more going on! No slowing in the middle. Loved it!
