I love reading, but I also love audiobooks. I live in a very rural area, so audiobooks are a necessity when traveling anywhere at all. I also love them because there are times I am simply too ill to be able to read, but if I have an audiobook, I can lie around, try to heal, and enjoy a nice book.

And this two are short and so cute! I also live in a very rural area so I completely understand the need to have something to listen to while you’re going anywhere. The closest store is 20 mins away and our closest gym is 40! Going to the gym is hard enough without knowing I’m going to waste two hours just driving! Audio books have been fabulous!

I almost always prefer an audiobook if I can get it. I’ve even begun pairing print and ebooks with the audio and letting the narrator read the book while I follow along. I mostly do this when riding my exercise bike in the morning.

Since most people can read silently faster than they read aloud, the trick is to speed up the audio when possible to 1.5x to 2x the normal speed* so that the narration is the same speed as reading the book. If you listen to the audio at this speed without the book it sounds strange but your brain makes the adjustment and it sounds normal when you’re looking at the words on the page.

Because my library has a large Overdrive collection, I am able to download almost any audiobook I want for free. It is truly amazing.

*This feature is possible on some digital downloads when using an iPod Touch. I don’t know if it’s available on any other devices.

That’s a great idea! I’m actually trying to listen to a Robert R. McGammon but it’s like 30 hours long. Halfway done and I feel like I’ve listened so much already! Maybe if I speed it up a little it won’t seem quite so bad. Thank you so much for the tip and for stopping by!

These are super short and very fun so even for those like you who do not prefer audio books, it can be a nice change. 😀

That is the best isn’t it? Either a great book or great music!

I prefer reading, there’s just something nice about having a physical book in my hands.

Most people do. My hubby actually got me into listening to Audio books. I do enjoy it when I’m busy but want to listen to something.

I prefer audio books currently since I have a 14 month old. Easier to listen and play with her than only be able to read during nap time.
