Bout of Books

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 9th and runs through Sunday, May 15th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 16 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team.

My goals for the week:

I never, ever get to all of my books but I love having a nice, long list so I can pick and choose if something doesn’t work for me. I normally have ten books listed and I feel pretty good if I get through about half (ish). Always depends on the week and my mood, of course! And school! I did good last time so I’m hoping to kick some ass this time too!

  • Read, read, read!
  • A book a day. Tuesday and Thursday are school days so that might cut into a bit of time but if I can still swing one a day, that’ll be awesome!
  • A few from Netgalley.
  • Most importantly: HAVE FUN!

List of books I hope to read:

Monday 05/09
Challenge: Introduce Yourself #insixwords:

Bohemian, reader, dreamer, thinker, dog lover!

Reading today: Red Knight – Review finished
Total number of books I’ve read: 1
Today #insixwords: Urban fantasy, not my favorite genre
Notes: Started Red Knight a while ago. Hard to get into so I thought I would suck it up and finish. I love Craig Schaefer but he wrote his first few books so well and this book is all about one of the antagonists. I hate her! Slow going but finished so it’s not that bad.

Tuesday 05/10
Challenge: Show Off Your Shelves Photo Challenge #shelfie4boutofbooks
Reading today: War of the Undead Day 2
Total number of books I’ve read: 2
Today #insixwords: Zombie gorge fest in the making!
Notes: Peter Meredith is great with his zombie stories. This was a fun read! Also a bit interesting how he is taking this book and doing it a day at a time. At the end of this book I forgot that it was only day two. So much going on! This is the kind of book that makes read a thons go by in the best way possible!

Wednesday 05/11
Challenge: 5 Favorites – I read a lot of horror so I’m going to have to do my five top horror books:

  1. The Fever by Megan Abbott
  2. The Day the Dead Came to Show and Tell by Mira Grant
  3. Ashley Bell by Dean Koontz
  4. Immune by Jacqueline Druga
  5. Morality by Kerrie Sheridan

Reading today: Sleeping Giants
Total number of books I’ve read:
Today #insixwords:
Notes: So far I am loving this book! Sci Fi is not one of my go to genres, goodness, it is not even a genre that I like normally, but this is starting off great. Interview format so I have to pay very close attention to every word. Started this last night while walking my pups! Hubby and four mutts below <3

hubby and babes

Thursday 05/12
Challenge: If you like this, try this… If you like Gail Carriger (any of her books really) try Love, Lies, and Spies by Cindy Anstey
Reading today:
Total number of books I’ve read: 2.5
Today #insixwords:

Friday 05/13
Challenge: Freaky Friday Photo Challenge #freakyboutofbooks
Reading today: – Lovegame
Total number of books I’ve read: 4
Today #insixwords:
Notes: -Why I’m reading a romance on Friday the 13th is beyond me! I was so excited to have The Twelve on my list and then I totally dropped the ball. On a good note, this is sort of a psychological read. Lots of dark stuff going on in this so … even though it is a romance, at least it has that.

Saturday 05/14
Challenge: Share your favorite Bout of Books moment
Reading today: Sleeping Giants
Total number of books I’ve read: 5
Today #insixwords:
Notes: Finally finished Sleeping Giants! For some reason I just could not get this finished in a timely fashion. It was pretty good although started slowing down and skipping parts due to the nature of the way the book is written. Mostly in interview form so the reader only knows what the interviewer is asking about. Interesting enough to finish and I’m curious about the next book.

Sunday 05/15
Challenge: FREE DAY!
Reading today: The Twelve!
Total number of books I’ve read:
Today #insixwords:
Final Tally: 5
Notes: Reading The Twelve but I knew I would not be able to get into this a whole lot prior to the read a thon ending. Already told the hubby that I’m reading for the rest of the night! I won’t finish this today though, but hopefully will tomorrow.
