A girl desperate to rescue her best friend, a cop willing to do anything to save the city he serves, and a delusional doctor bent on its annihilation.
When Ruby Iyer's best friend is kidnapped by the despotic Dr Kamini Braganza, she will do anything to rescue him. Anything, including taking the help of the unpleasant Vikram Roy, a cop on a mission to save Bombay. The city needs all the help it can get, and these two are the only thing standing between its total destruction by Doctor Braganza's teen army. As Bombay falls apart around them, will Ruby be able to save her friend and the city? Will she finally discover her place in a city where she has never managed to fit in? And what about her growing feelings for Vikram?

My Thoughts

I absolutely love these characters. The main character is a fiesty teenager and we get to see her point of view. I really resonated with her but maybe not so much her courage. She fights for what she believes in!

As I started I was wondering if this was going to fall into the main trope idea of girl next door saves the world but it is so much more than that. Laxmi Hariharan’s writing drags you into the story and sooner rather than later you are wanting to know what happens. I was sitting there with bated breath at the climax and was really cheering for the characters. I felt for Ruby Iyer every step of the way. Even when I thought she was making a foolish decision or being brash, I still understood her plight.

So many times I have been able to call a twist or the ending and Laxmi kept me at arm’s length. She writes clues in though so when you’re done you can start seeing the picture come together but I still have so many questions that I don’t even know if I’m sure what the main picture is! There was so much that I didn’t see and so much that I hope is in the upcoming books. Really glad this is a series!

What I honestly love about Laxmi’s writing is her ability to bring you into the story. It’s not only 3d. Her descriptions are so great that you feel like you are living a story rather than just reading it. After reading this I feel as if I’ve been to Mumbai! A place where I’ve always wanted to go. It’s such a fantastic work of art that she’s woven, while telling a story.
