"The Lord has appointed you to a special duty in these last days and given your life a unique purpose. Will you turn away from the myriad temptations of this wicked world and answer His righteous calling?"
The Walters family has just purchased the perfect home if only it weren't located in the small hick town of Harrington, Indiana, and if only it weren't haunted. David Walters is an atheist now, but his minister father taught him from a young age that Satan would one day deceive all mankind by pretending his demons were extra terrestrials. The day the Walters family moves in, they spot a flying saucer outside their new home. Things only get stranger from there. David Walters is about to learn what it means to be truly haunted, forcing him to confront his past, fight for his family, his soul, and his sanity.
This is the third of five chapters in THE BOOK OF DAVID, a serialized tale of terror from Robert Kent, author of ALL TOGETHER NOW: A ZOMBIE STORY and PIZZA DELIVERY.
This horror story is intended for a mature audience. It's filled with adult language, situations, and themes. It's in no way appropriate for the easily offended or younger readers of BANNEKER BONES AND THE GIANT ROBOT BEES.
What is hilarious about this story, is that my husband and I just bought a house. Of course I’m gluten for punishment and love reading a book about a haunted house with a sexy Jesus picture that looks like he’s watching you! Miriam’s dealing with ghosts and worrying for her child’s life and David’s cavorting with sexy Jesus. If you have yet to read this, I suggest reading these chapters in order. Starting with chapter three, you may think the characters are nuts! These definitely have to be read in order.
The horror and creep factor feels like a valve that Robert Kent has his finger on. He’s slowly pushing that lever and ratcheting the apprehension chapter by chapter. At times my heart is racing but he weighs this evenly with character growth, or freak outs rather, that move the plot right along!
There is also a LOT happening in chapter three. They don’t know if they should start coming to terms with the flying saucers that they keep seeing but David also seems to have his priorities all built around what he hears. Being that he is a logical man, it takes a lot of interesting stuff happening to get him to do certain things but it’s like a slippery slope. I feel like I’m watching him make choices that are going to bite him in the ass later. I really hope not because he keeps thinking he’s doing what’s right for his family. I’m on the fence!
Which is why I can’t wait to pick up chapter four. I love how these are written and the slowly intensifying horror that is happening in each section. At the end of book three I want to cry and scream and yell at everything surrounding David and Miriam. If only they saw what the reader saw, maybe they’d make better choices! Maybe not… people do strange things.
Picking up chapter four as soon as possible! I’m so worried what is going to happen but it’s like a bad accident, you just can’t look away!
