From the author of the New York Times bestselling Bad Boys novels comes the first in a dark, sexy contemporary trilogy.
Is she strong enough to trust the most dangerous man she's ever met? And is he strong enough to let her? How would I describe myself? Well, I'm Muse Harper. I'm a twenty-something painter who loves red wine, quirky movies, and men with a fatal flaw. But that was before I met Jasper King. He became my fatal flaw. Eight months ago, I had a choice to make; abandon everything I've ever known to protect my family, or stay and risk someone getting hurt. I chose the former. My plan was working just fine until I found out my father had gone missing.
That's when I met Jasper. A bounty hunter with the eyes of a tiger and the nose of a bloodhound, he was supposed to help me find my father. What I didn't know was that meeting him was no accident. Hunting people isn't all that Jasper does. And helping me was only part of his plan. I just wish I'd found out sooner, before my heart got involved. But even then, I don't know if I'd have done things differently. Now, I have another choice to make?trust the man that I'm falling in love with and hope that he'll do the right thing, or run as far away from him as I can get.
Ok, maybe it’s me. You ever get that feeling where nothing fits for a while? None of the books that I’ve read recently are doing it for me. NONE. Sigh… It is so sad when that happens. I went to one Goodread’s page and noticed that ok, it wasn’t me, nobody liked this one particular book. But in this case everyone is raving, and I mean fanaticing over this and I’m just over here like Ho Hum.
Oh well. We don’t all have the same spots and not all books are going to do it for all of us. So I am in the minority this time.
I guess what got me was that insta-love thing. Muse is a pretty young adult, early 20’s ish and is so taken aback by Jasper. I get the lust thing, really I do, but when it’s lust, it’s lust. Why do we have to go around saying it’s love when clearly you have only known the guy for three days. Actually I think it was two when they kissed and then she stayed up freaking out about it all night. ALL night. Sigh…
The only part about Muse that I do like was her love of her Dad. She would obviously do anything for him. That makes sense. Her attraction makes sense but her naivety is just annoying. I get it, I’m naive most of the time to some worldly things out there but not ALL of it. She just really started getting on my nerves.
The you have Jasper. I tried to like him but I still did not feel any connection. I am sick of the bad boy vibe and then he’s hiding a lot from Muse. But then he goes from hardly saying ANY thing to totally speaking with her with no reason for the change. I don’t get it… ugh!
If you look past the issues, the sexy parts are SEXY!!! Like way out of this world. M. Leighton knows how to write some scenes. They will definitely keep romance lovers entertained.
I’ve heard so much about M. Leighton that I know I need to pick up more books and not judge the writing by this one. So far though, I’m not loving it. I’m not going to judge because like I said before this is happening with everything that I pick up! I’ll have to stick with school work for a while to get out of this horrible reading funk!
