A new Newsflesh novella from the New York Times bestselling author that brought you Feed, Mira Grant.
As Dr. Abbey knows, there are difficulties in running an underground virology lab in a post-Rising America.
And unwanted guests must be dealt with.

short and sweet

Mira Grant nearly always gets 5 star reviews from me. I love her and I am addicted to her writing. Sadly though my expectations after reading her other novellas, were too high. I had images of Octopi zombies crawling around and sucking the life out of everyone! Although, there is an octopus in this, he does not get zombiefied.

Now, there is a twist that really did get to me. The woman that finds Dr. Abberly is from another novella. These do not HAVE to be read in order but I highly suggest reading them in order. Firstly, because knowing who Dr. Abberly is and how she got to where she is now is important, but also because you will know who the girl is. Her story is traumatic, much like all of the personal stories in these, but it is one that has stuck with me since I read her novella.

Trying to say all of this without spoilers is difficult. Basically, this is a good book. It is on par with her others but my expectations of an octopi zombie horde brought the fun out of what is actually going on here.

If you’re a Mira Grant fan you will enjoy this. Just do not do what I did and expect what is not there.

In short: Enjoyable. Another Mira Grant! Enough said.

The Author

About Mira Grant

Born and raised in Northern California, Mira Grant has made a lifelong study of horror movies, horrible viruses, and the inevitable threat of the living dead. In college, she was voted Most Likely to Summon Something Horrible in the Cornfield, and was a founding member of the Horror Movie Sleep-Away Survival Camp, where her record for time survived in the Swamp Cannibals scenario remains unchallenged.

Mira lives in a crumbling farmhouse with an assortment of cats, horror movies, comics, and books about horrible diseases. When not writing, she splits her time between travel, auditing college virology courses, and watching more horror movies than is strictly good for you. Favorite vacation spots include Seattle, London, and a large haunted corn maze just outside of Huntsville, Alabama.

Mira sleeps with a machete under her bed, and highly suggests that you do the same.

Mira also writes as Seanan McGuire.
