Since the implosion at The Oasis and Derek’s stay at Hawk Headquarters, The Shade has fallen into a state of utter chaos. To make matters worse, the citizens of Derek’s kingdom have become suspicious of his loyalties and accuse him of siding with the enemy… At a time when Derek desperately needs full cooperation from his subjects, they wish to put their own King on trial.

Meanwhile, Sofia is being held hostage by the hunters. They are determined to rid her of her infatuation with the vampire. She submits to the strict routine and training they impose on her, but the only fuel that keeps her going is the thought of reuniting with Derek – something Reuben is fighting with every fiber of his being to ensure will never happen.

…Until one day, out of the blue, Reuben appears to have a change of heart and comes to Sofia with a proposal; a solution that she never dreamed possible. A solution that would fulfil her heart’s deepest desires and secure her and Derek’s future together, forever.

But can she really trust this man who is so renowned for his hatred of vampires? Does she even have a choice?

My Thoughts:

Ok, I thought book three was my favorite but this one may take its place. There is so much intensity in this one, so many questions added to the growing list of questions I already had! Just so much!

First off this starts a bit strange. I was wondering again what was going on but now knowing how Bella Forrest writes I totally went with it and delved straight in. I mean, seriously we get to know so much more about the people surrounding Sophia. And most of them I love to hate but I really enjoy how Bella lets you in on her ideas. Each chapter has a voice of that particular narrator so never did I feel left in the dark (ha, little vampire pun there!). And each chapter was better than the last, although, some of the characters I was dying to get back to.

This again was as truly good as the first three and I’m really excited about the fifth which has just been published! I’m so glad I already have it or I would have had to drive to the bookstore!

Into vampire love stories? You must not miss this one!

Welcome back to The Shade…

“Of course you know who I am. I’m a daughter of the darkness just as surely as you are his son…”

Ever since his brief encounter with Emilia at The Shade, Derek’s thoughts and dreams have been haunted with images of the mysterious, beautiful brunette. Plagued with guilt, he struggles to understand why he is so drawn to this dark stranger from his past.

When Emilia suddenly appears again on the island, Derek is both terrified and intrigued. But this time, he is determined to involve Sofia and discover who this woman is.

If only Derek and Sofia knew, Emilia is a mystery that should be left undiscovered…

My Thoughts:

Another fabulous read! And just as I thought this was the end, this one also ends on a cliff hanger. Not too much of one though. Almost all questions were answered (finally!!) and I really enjoyed how the plots and sub plots came together, and more importantly I loved how the characters ended up. And now I can’t wait for book six!

There were a few things about book five in particular that seemed to slow down the plot a little for me. There was a lot of reminiscing about what happened in previous books, enough that you might be able to read this one on its own. There is SO much in the previous four books that I wouldn’t recommend it but it was good to have the reminders. Although, since I read the last four back to back I didn’t need them so for me, it slowed the plot down but for anyone waiting months in between, I think they would have really appreciate those little reminders.

There’s also a lot of background behind some of the other characters. Characters that seemingly didn’t have much to do with the story but they all do. And I enjoyed getting to know more than just Sophia and Derek. It really helped me see this entire vampire world that Bella Forrest has made. And with the amount of characters that this has in it I’m surprised that the story didn’t get bogged down, but it never did. Some characters I loved more than others, but for the most part I really enjoyed this.

There are parts in this one that really got to me… I wanted to put the book down, but I just couldn’t. I had to know what was going to happen! If you’re reading this and you feel the same way I do just trudge through those parts, it’s worth it in the end. And the way Bella gives all the answers I was looking for was incredible. Everything comes together to make all of this make sense.

And then it ends on a cliff hanger! But it’s good… really, really a great read! And perfect for the October season! 😉
