November 23- Happy Thanksgiving! How are you celebrating this year?

Nov 23rd is my Sister and Mother-in-law’s birthdays! Sadly these two fabulous women are on different sides of the world from where I am currently so that means I have to bake a cake and eat it for them! Or at least some kind of pie, preferably apple says my hubby.

This year I am very thankful for so many things. It was a tough year in our house with my hubby’s grandmother going into an old folk’s home and his mom and dad both fighting cancer. My step-dad had to have his pancreas removed as well. We’ve had our ups and downs but everyone has lived to tell their tales so I am grateful that they have.

I am also very grateful to my husband’s father. To make a long story short, he and I do not get along. We’re both bull headed and pretty stuck in our ways, sadly we just do not see eye to eye on many things. This year he threatened me. At first I was shocked and more than a bit worried since he is bipolar but then he helped me to realize something; I don’t care.

Now, some may say that not caring is the opposite feeling than the one we want on Thanksgiving but I am the type that wants to please everyone. Even those that do not like me. I am going to go WAY out of my way to make sure YOU are okay while I’m not. This argument with my FIL helped me to see that I do not have to be liked by every person in the world for my world to continue revolving! There are 7 billion people in the world, sooner or later I was going to run into someone that didn’t like me. I’d prefer it to not be my FIL but the fact that it is makes me have to face it every day.

Because of this I have started to realize who I am. I am not trying to be the person that everyone likes, I am not trying to be the person that I think you would like, I’m just here to be myself. I have to like myself first before anyone else can. It’s a hard lesson to learn and one that has taken me 42 long years (well 41 3/4) to figure out but I am so glad for those people that have not liked me because I am a better, stronger person. It’s not easy but I’m working through that part too.

By the way, also thankful for the fantastic photography by MyLifeThroughTheLens

How are you celebrating? What are you thankful for in 2016?
